What is Permanent Makeup?
Permanent Makeup (PMU) is a cosmetic tattooing technique that enhances your natural features by implanting pigment into the skin. It’s most commonly used for brows, eyeliner, and lips. While it falls under the tattooing category, it’s very different from the traditional tattoo process.
How does it work?
The tool: Instead of a heavy tattoo gun, PMU uses a lightweight, handheld machine designed specifically for the delicate skin of the face. This allows for precision and control, creating soft and natural-looking results.
The pigment: Traditional tattoos use ink, which is bold and permanent. PMU uses cosmetic pigment, which is specially formulated to fade softly over time. Think of it less like ink and more like watercolor—it’s layered gradually for a subtle, natural effect.
The process: Because pigment is applied in layers, your brows are built up over the course of two appointments. The first appointment creates the foundation. The second—your touch-up, scheduled about 8 weeks later—is where your artist perfects the color, adjusts shape if needed, and ensures the brows heal evenly. This two-step process is essential for achieving balanced, long-lasting results.
Why is the touch-up needed?
Healing can cause the brows to fade, soften, or heal unevenly. The touch-up allows your artist to refine and “lock in” the final result. Skipping this step can leave brows looking unfinished.✨ Curious about how to prepare or what healing looks like? What are Powder Brows?
Powder Brows are a modern, semi-permanent brow tattoo that gives the look of softly filled-in brows—like your favorite brow pencil or powder, but long-lasting.
The technique: Using a handheld PMU machine, tiny pixels of cosmetic pigment are implanted into the skin to create a soft, shaded effect. Unlike microblading (which uses a blade to create hair-like strokes), this method is gentler on the skin, heals more evenly, and works beautifully for all skin types.
Choosing your perfect brow color:
Color theory is everything. My goal is to blend pigment seamlessly into your natural brow hairs while enhancing your complexion, bone structure, and even your eye color. I custom formulate shades by considering undertones, depth, and contrast so the final color looks soft, flattering, and completely natural on you.Mapping the brows:
Brows aren’t one-size-fits-all. A beautifully designed brow can lift the eyes, bring symmetry to the features, and give the whole face a more rested, polished look. Here’s how I map:
I use your natural features as the blueprint—identifying where the brows should ideally begin, arch, and end.
I freehand a white outline to sculpt and hug the curves of your natural brows, making sure to include as much of your existing hair as possible.
Every outline is cross-checked with a precision measuring tool for optimal balance (faces aren’t perfectly symmetrical, and that’s okay—we aim for harmony, not perfection).
This step alone can take up to 45 minutes. You’ll be wearing these brows for the next couple years so you better believe I’m taking my sweet time. I’m known for being meticulous and my clients tell me it’s one of the things they value most.
The Application Process
Once your brow shape is mapped and approved, it’s time to begin the application. You’ll lay back comfortably while I work in delicate layers—typically 3–5 passes per brow—depending on how light or dark we’re going and how the pigment is showing up on your skin.
One of the unique benefits of this process is flexibility: I can fine-tune your pigment formula as I go, adjusting warmth or depth to ensure the color compliments your undertones beautifully as it develops on the skin.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation as a light scratching during the first pass—not painful, just noticeable. And I don’t say that to sugarcoat the experience. My approach is very light-handed, and your comfort is always my top priority. Here’s how it works:
No pre-numbing: I don’t use pre-numbing cream before we start because it takes 30+ minutes to activate and can actually change the texture of the skin. This makes it harder for the needle to implant pigment evenly and can require more pressure, which means more trauma and less predictable healing.
Layer + numbing cycle: Instead, once the first pass is complete, I apply a professional secondary numbing gel. Because the skin has been opened, it penetrates instantly—making the rest of the process virtually painless. I reapply numbing gel between every layer.
Extra benefits: This secondary numbing also reduces redness and swelling significantly, so most clients leave their appointment without feeling self-conscious. The best way I can describe it? You’ll leave feeling like your forehead just got a quick shot of Novocaine—slightly numb, but totally manageable.
After your treatment, you’ll head home with a personalized aftercare kit and detailed instructions. Following these steps is crucial for healing beautifully—see our [Pre-Care & Aftercare Guide] for everything you need to know.
Results: Powder Brows are completed over the course of two appointments, spaced 8-10 weeks apart. This two-part approach ensures the color heals evenly and naturally. With proper care, they typically last 2–3 years before gradually fading, with many clients opting for a quick refresh every 12–18 months.

What is Lip Blushing?
If your lips have lost a bit of color over the years—or if you’re just tired of reapplying lipstick 15 times a day—you are going to love Lip Blushing.
This shading technique gives lips a soft, natural wash of color using a PMU machine designed specifically for the face. Think of it like your favorite tinted balm. The result is a healthy flush of color that makes lips look more even, defined, and fuller—without looking like heavy lipstick.
Choosing your lip color:
We’ll work together to customize a shade that flatters your overall complexion. The color selection is endless— ranging from soft rose, pink nude, peachy tones, or simply your lips’ natural shade but enhanced. Color theory is at the heart of the process and requires a strong understanding. Let’s say 5 clients all want the same color. Each formula should be customized based on factors like their natural lip color and skin-tone. The right shade doesn’t just enhance your lips—it can brighten your whole face when done right.Shaping the lips:
To start, I draw a crisp white outline along the border of the lips, sculpting symmetry and definition while honoring your natural shape. This will serve as my guide during the color application, ensuring precise, clean results. Small adjustments can restore lost borders and balance proportions. And while I don’t tattoo “outside the lines” to artificially enlarge lips, the added definition and ombré shading can give the illusion of fuller, plumper lips. The application process:
Lips are more sensitive than brows, so I take extra steps to make the treatment comfortable:Professional numbing cream is applied before we begin to ensure optimal comfort from the very first pass.
I continue to numb throughout the process.
Most clients describe little to no discomfort. Some areas of the lip, like the cupids bow, can be a little “spicy” — I save that for last and work gently.
Once in a great while I’ll service a client with a very low pain tolerance. If that’s you — lets chat first! My process is tailored from start to finish— it’s my responsibility to come up with a solid game plan for every individual.
Because lips are vascular, swelling is normal. It can be mild to moderate (sometimes more) and may look uneven at first. This is temporary—I’ll send you home with an ice pack to help minimize swelling, and most clients find it settles within 24 hours. Your lips may also feel sore or tender for the first couple of days, similar to how they might feel after a sunburn.
The results:
Lip Blushing is a two-part process, with your perfecting session scheduled 8-10 weeks after your first appointment. Once healed, lips retain color for 2–3 years before gradually fading. You can still wear lipstick or gloss if you want, but most clients love that no additional effort is required. -
Your results are only as good as the care you give them— before and after your appointment. can create the most beautiful brows, but if your skin isn’t prepped properly or you skip the healing steps, your results won’t look their best (and I know you want your money’s worth).
Pre-Care (2 Weeks Before Your Appointment)
Following these guidelines ensures your skin is ready for pigment:
No hair removal (waxing, tweezing, threading, tinting) for 2 weeks. I need to see your natural growth so I can design the best shape for you.
Discontinue retinol, chemical exfoliants (like glycolic or salicylic acid), and prescription acne treatments. They thin and sensitize the skin.
Avoid harsh facials, chemical peels, and laser treatments in the area.
Limit alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinning medications/supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E) for 24–48 hours before your appointment (unless prescribed by your doctor). These increase bleeding and can affect pigment retention.
Wash your hair the morning of (or the night before). You’ll need to avoid water on your brows for the first 24–48 hours, and clean hair makes life easier.
Aftercare (The First 7–10 Days)
You’ll go home with everything you need—cleanser, ointment, cotton pads, and step-by-step instructions. Your job is simple: follow the plan and let your skin heal.
Here’s what to expect and avoid:
Keep your brows clean (using the provided cleanser) and lightly moisturized with ointment as directed.
Avoid getting your brows wet (outside of cleaning them) for the first 24–48 hours.
Do not pick, scratch, or peel scabs/flakes. This can pull out pigment and cause uneven healing.
Avoid heavy sweating, swimming, saunas, hot yoga, or direct sun exposure during the healing period.
Expect some light scabbing, flaking, and fading before color resurfaces. Totally normal—trust the process.
No makeup or skincare products directly on the brows until they’re fully healed (10-14 days)
Cleanse & apply a thin layer of ointment 2x a day (AM/PM)
💡 Remember: Healing is temporary, but your results are long-term. The extra care you give now = softer, fuller, longer-lasting brows later.

Why do I need a touch-up?
The touch-up is not optional — it’s an essential part of the process. After your initial session, your skin will naturally heal and the color will lighten by about 30–50%. The touch-up allows us to reinforce the shape, deepen the color, and make any needed adjustments to ensure your final result is exactly right.
It’s also where the magic really happens. This second layer of pigment helps create the soft, long-lasting finish powder brows and lip blush are known for.
Touch-up appointments are booked approx. 8 weeks after your first visit and take 90+ minutes. It’s a quick and easy step that completes the process and gives you beautifully healed, lasting results.
Touch-ups must be completed within 12 weeks of your first service. Missed appointments or re-scheduling past the 12 week deadline will be charged a touch-up fee.
Annual Touch-ups
Your brows (or lips) won’t stay forever and that’s actually a good thing. As your skin naturally exfoliates and the pigment will gradually fade over time. That’s where your annual touch-up comes in.
Typically done around 18–24 months after your initial service, this session is designed to refresh color, fine-tune shape, and keep your results looking soft, balanced, and beautifully maintained.
It’s not a full redo, it’s more like a mini refresh to keep everything looking polished and fresh for another year or two. You’ll know it’s time when your pigment starts to fade or you find yourself reaching for a brow pencil or lip tint again.
As always, I’ll reassess your skin, tone, and goals before getting started, and custom-match your color just like we did the first time. It’s all about keeping your look natural and elevated.

With 15+ years of working on faces, I bring a makeup artist’s eye (and a healthy dose of perfectionism) to permanent makeup—especially brows. My background in artistry, skin tone analysis, and facial balancing means I don’t just “do brows”… I design them.
Brow Mapping — My Secret Sauce
This is where I shine. No stencils. No cookie-cutter shapes. Every brow is hand-drawn and refined to complement your natural features. The goal? Brows that look and feel authentic— enhancing what you already have, not replacing it.
Pigment Mixing = My Love Language
One shade fits all? Hard pass. I custom blend pigments for every single client, taking into account your undertone, eye color, hair color, and overall aethetic. Because I know how pigments heal, I can confidently predict where your color is headed. No one’s walking out with Groucho Marx brows on my watch.
Gentle, Intentional, and Just a Bit Picky
I approach every service with care, precision, and the kind of attention to detail that borders on obsessive (in a good way). Permanent makeup is a big decision, and my role is to make the process as comfortable as possible. I’d never give you a brow I wouldn’t proudly wear myself. If I wouldn’t put it up on a billboard, you’re definitely not leaving the studio with it.

Chances are, yes! Permanent makeup is amazing if you want to simplify your routine, add back definition, or just wake up looking a little more “done” with zero effort.
You’ll probably love PMU if:
Your brows are sparse, uneven, or have seen better days (thanks, tweezers 🙃)
You’re tired of reapplying makeup (or smudging it off) every day
Your lips have lost a bit of color or shape over time
You want to feel polished and put-together
That said, PMU isn’t for everyone. We’ll need to hold off if you’re pregnant, nursing, on Accutane, undergoing chemo, or have certain skin conditions like eczema or active breakouts in the treatment area. If your skin is stressed, healing, or your health needs extra care — we’ll hit pause until it’s safe.
🚫 You’re not a candidate if you:
Are pregnant or nursing
Are prone to keloid scarring
Are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation
Have uncontrolled diabetes or a bleeding disorder
Are currently on Accutane (must be off for at least 1 year)
Have had Botox, fillers, or cosmetic treatments in the area within 2–4 weeks
Have active skin conditions in the area (eczema, psoriasis, severe acne, rosacea flare-ups, open wounds, etc.)
Are under 18 (even with parental consent)
Not sure where you fall? Don’t worry— every client is assessed individually to make sure this is the right and safest choice for you. A quick consultation can help us decide together. I’ll always give you an honest answer and professional guidance.
